Steve Gisby

Steve Gisby (b.1975) is a composer, bass guitarist and educator from West Sussex, England.

His music has been performed in the UK, Europe and the U.S.A. His piece so whisper your name was recorded by members of the London Sinfonietta and a new version of his piano duet thaw was featured as part of the Trimpin installation Conloninpurple at the Southbank Centre in London in 2012.

Working with Dr. Leo Grant and Dr. Chris Sarantis, he assisted John Ashton Thomas (The Bourne Legacy, X-Men: First Class, United 93) in a new orchestration of Conlon Nancarrow's Study No. 49, which was performed by the London Sinfonietta.

As a bass guitarist, he has worked all over the UK with ensembles ranging from rock trios to big band jazz orchestras, and from twelve piece soul bands to contemporary music groups. He has played at Ronnie Scott's, the 100 Club and the Edinburgh Festival. Television appearances include HTV West and Channel 4, as well as shows broadcast by satellite to the U.S.A, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Far East.

He holds a Ph.D and a BA (Hons) from Brunel University, and a DipHE from Thames Valley University. He is an examiner for Trinity College, London and has given lectures at Ircam in Paris and Furman University in South Carolina.
