Began my life as a software guy and realized I wasn't cut out to crank code. But learned a ton. Wanted to build businesses, relationships - not just products. Joined a bank, soon realized I spoke a language that few finance guys spoke in the early 1990's - technology. Wrote the business plan to start and build a bank-owned tech finance group. Learned the ropes from some amazing entrepreneurs and investors during a formative decade in the Vancouver tech scene. Made some angel investments and had a few lucky (but never fast) wins along the way. Founded Yaletown Venture Partners in 2001, invested in some awesome entrepreneurs and built the firm to $160 million in capital under management over the next decade. Lots of scar tissue earmed building a venture firm and a bunch of tech companies across a tough decade. Decided to take a break with my wife and four kids in 2010-2011 and to spend some time on a handful of boards, industry and non-profit causes. Most recently, having a great time with the uber-smart team at VanEdge Capital, where I spend time as a Venture Partner, and acquiring interesting companies (both tech and traditional sectors) through my new private equity firm, Lighthouse Equity Partners.
Always interested in cool new opportunities, with passionate entrepreneurs, and new reasons to keep the faith that optimism is the best policy. Life is short, I do business with people that I like and that I admire. Every day counts.
