Steve Kuhn

Recognized for his expertise in hedge fund trading, Steve Kuhn has been featured in several business publications and interviewed on a variety of television programs. Most recently, Forbes magazine published an article on April 15, 2013, entitled “Sublime Subprime,” which describes the portfolio manager’s success in subprime mortgage-backed trading. Steve Kuhn has also appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Market Makers” in December 2012. In the interview, Mr. Kuhn spoke on a number of topics, including relative-value hedge funds and hedge funds that specialize in mortgage-based trades.
When he is not speaking to the media, Steve Kuhn oversees fixed income trading at global asset management firm Pine River Capital Management, LP, which is based in Minnetonka, Minnesota. He became a partner at the firm in 2009, one year after taking on duties there as the head of fixed income trading. In his current role, Mr. Kuhn manages a fixed income fund that has seen significant gains during the last year.
Prior to joining Pine River Capital Management, he served as portfolio manager and vice president at Goldman Sachs Asset Management for five years. Working as part of a team in charge of mortgage-based securities worth billions of dollars, Steve Kuhn attained exceptional returns on risk-adjusted trades. He previously traded Japanese convertible bonds as a trader with Citadel Investment Group, one of the world’s most highly regarded arbitrage hedge funds.
Steve Kuhn earned a bachelor of arts with honors at Harvard University. Majoring in economics, he graduated in 1991. He also completed coursework in game theory, microeconomics, and statistics.
