Steve McAllister
Tutor and Editor in Eugene, Oregon
I'm a scientist and educator living in Eugene, OR, my home of ten years. I recently completed a Master of Science Degree in the University of Oregon's Department of Biology, where I worked as a research assistant and Graduate Teaching Fellow for eight years.
During my time at the University I discovered a passion for teaching, and went out of my way to gain as much experience as possible. I've taught dozens of courses in biology and environmental science, and tutored and mentored undergraduates in the classroom and the laboratory throughout that time. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to help the students who need it most, in the format where I am strongest: one-on-one and in small groups.
My students consistently point to time with me in office hours as instrumental to their learning, and I find that I connect best with students on an individual basis, where I can tailor my teaching strategy to their individual learning styles.
I'd love to help you meet your learning goals! Contact me above to get started!
Rates and Availability:
I offer individual tutoring at a standard rate of $30 per hour. It's important to me to make resources available to people with financial need, so I have a limited number of sliding scale slots; feel free to ask about this if you have the need!
For groups of two or more students, my rate is $15 per hour per person. This is a great way to prepare for an exam, or get help with a group project or paper.
I am generally available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, on the U of O campus.
