Amherst, Massachusetts, United States

My name is Steven Gross and I an aspiring senior duel degree Sport Management student in the Mark. H. McCormack Department of Sport Management and Finance student in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. My passion is to one day become the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Boston Red Sox. I want to take my knowledge of the sport management and finance industry and infuse them together into the same career. I am confident that my sport management and financial background as well as my education will help steer me towards my ultimate goal to be a high ranking financial executive for the Boston Red Sox.
My interested in finance started back in middle school due to the fact that I really enjoyed all of my math classes and started to understand how numbers would work together to solve certain problems. As I got older, I realized that I wanted to have a career in finance. I am fascinated by the way numbers work together to explain and analyze certain organizational techniques. My passion for working in the sport management industry started while I was in high school. I loved to go to Fenway Park and watch all of the employees and how they would work together to create a great experience for the fans off the field. I would look for the marketing team or operations team and see how they would enhance the fan experience by executing promotions or help guide a fan to their seat. I knew that I wanted to go to school to learn how they made the experience look effortless and simple. While at UMass, I am able to incorporate both the financial and sport management industries together to gain great experiences.
My passion for sport management and finance has enhanced and developed over my time at UMass. I have established my skills through my classes such as sport management facility management, sport finance, advance corporate finance, investments and more. I have also participated in real world experiences such as running a youth hockey tournament, interning with Major League Lacrosse and being vice president and treasurer of the sport management club. I have grown as a person and developed my work ethic through sport management and finance while at UMass- Amherst.
