Steven Bankert
Steven Bankert is a business professional that also has vast knowledge about the environment. He currently resides on Falls Pond which was created during the late 1800's. This man-made pond of 69 acres was used for water power by the local mill.
This pond holds a place in his heart and he is passionate about conserving it. Mr. Bankert works with his local community to keep Falls Pond pristine for the creatures that call it home. The pond is currently used as a public beach which is why it is so important to him to keep it clean. People have a way of not cleaning up after themselves which pollutes the area. Steven strives to keep Falls Pond as clean as possible.
Falls Pond
This pond is also used for public recreation and power boating. Many developers have tried to build on the land surrounding the pond. Steven Bankert and his community have helped stop these developers from taking over the land. They also try to keep the number of boaters to a minimum in order to not disturb the wildlife.
Bankert also helped keep a dockominium strategy from occurring on the pond. This is much like a condominium, but instead of owning an apartment in the building, people own a boat slip (ramp) on the water. This will help keep the amount of traffic to this area down in the future. He does not want Falls Pond to become an overpopulated area.
Leadership Opportunities
Because he is so concerned with the well-being of Falls Pond, Steven helped instate an emergency management director. This director is in charge of the dam. There formerly was a chairperson conservation committee but the chairpeople changed every year. This means that no one had any real knowledge or experience with the dam. Ever since the emergency management director was put into place, there have not been any floods.
He assisted with documenting the timelines according to when the dam was rebuilt. It is important for the future to know how this was handled before. Steven Bankert looks forward to protecting Falls Pond for many years to come.
