Steven Binetter is a New York–based investment executive recognized for nearly two decades of experience spanning global public markets and private investment strategies. Throughout his career, he has combined analytical discipline with a forward-looking approach to markets, building a reputation for generating consistent returns and leading teams focused on performance and innovation.
From 2015 through 2025, Binetter worked with Marshall Wace, one of the world’s leading long/short equity hedge funds managing close to $70 billion. He joined the New York office as a Portfolio Manager, later becoming a Partner in 2023. As part of the U.S. Management Committee, he was the only investment team representative and played a central role in shaping strategic direction, portfolio construction, and risk management initiatives. His tenure was marked by a decade of strong and scalable investment results.
When Steve Binetter joined Marshall Wace, the firm’s assets under management were roughly $15 billion, and its U.S. operations were still relatively small, with about 25 employees. He went on to launch and manage the Global Industrials strategy, internally known as the Eureka Fund. Starting with approximately $200 million in gross market value, he expanded the strategy to $1.5 billion by the end of 2016, and over the following years, it operated in a range of $3 to $7 billion. He led a seven-person investment team known for stability, with only two departures in ten years, and maintained a geographic mix of 75% U.S. and 25% international exposure.
Binetter’s expertise extends across industrials, business services, technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), consumer, non-bank financials, and life science tools. Beyond traditional fundamental investing, he developed systematic and quantamental strategies aimed at generating alpha and managing portfolio risk. As part of his leadership responsibilities, he regularly chaired quarterly investment meetings in New York to align team research, investment decisions, and risk frameworks.
From 2021 to 2025, Steve Binetter also co-managed the MW XO Digital Finance Fund, a private investment vehicle with approximately $450 million in assets under management. He was instrumental in the fund’s creation, helping to market and structure it while overseeing more than half of the deployed capital. Under his guidance, the fund invested in high-growth firms such as Circle, Human Interest, Lukka, TRM Labs, and Accelerant. His work with the fund reflected a broader focus on financial technology, particularly companies building data, compliance, and infrastructure solutions for institutional markets.
Earlier in his career, Binetter spent eight years at Eminence Capital in New York (2007–2015), a $7 billion long/short equity hedge fund. He joined as a Research Associate, advanced to Analyst, and later became a Portfolio Manager. Reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer, he managed up to 25 concurrent positions, developing a strong record in both long and short strategies. His research and recommendations shaped core positions, including individual longs of up to $300 million and shorts of $100 million. He developed extensive experience across sectors such as industrials, technology, consumer, and media, with additional exposure to markets in Western Europe, South America, and Asia.
Binetter began his professional career in investment banking at UBS Investment Bank in New York, working within the Mergers and Acquisitions Group. There, he conducted in-depth valuation analyses and financial modeling for both public and private companies, supporting senior management teams on complex transactions.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Commerce with Merit from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where he majored in Finance and completed over three years of coursework toward a Bachelor of Laws degree. While at UNSW, he represented the university’s soccer team, which won the U19 NSW Soccer Federation Division 2 State League Championship in 2003. He also studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed courses in Mergers & Acquisitions, Negotiations, Corporate Valuation, and Advanced Corporate Finance, and at New York University’s Stern School of Business, focusing on Real Estate Finance and Investment Banking.
