Steven Dinero

Steven C. Dinero, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Human Geography at Philadelphia University, has research and teaching interests in the social, cultural, economic and political changes impacting indigenous and minority peoples within the context of 21st century globalization. His major areas of study are in the Middle East, where he centers his work upon the bedouin Arab citizens of southern Israel, and northeast Alaska, where he concentrates his work among the Nets'aii Gwich'in Indian community. However, he also has interests and expertise on the Indian Subcontinent, Palestine, North Africa, and elsewhere. Dr. Dinero received his B.A. from SUNY Albany in 1983, his M.A. from Brandeis in 1988, and his PhD from Rutgers University in 1995. His first two degrees are in Middle Eastern Studies; his doctorate is in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis on Third World Settlement Systems. Dr. Dinero is the author of the monograph "Settling for Less: The Planned Resettlement of Israel's Negev Bedouin," as well as several additional articles and chapters on the Negev bedouin and the Nets'aii Gwich'in. His interests include gender role change, religion (Islam, Christianity), tourism, planning, and related fields. Dr. Dinero lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey with his wife, children, and more pets than are possible to list.
