Steven Myers
Growing up in a tiny rural township one hour South-East of Melbourne, Australia, Steven carved out a successful academic pathway and left his mark on the public education system with some amazing extracurricular achievements, including the Gold Medallion of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, an Australia Day Award for his Community Leadership, and one of six Victorian Finalist in the Lions Youth of the Year Quest. Selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum in 2002 provided the inspiration to accept two scholarships to study a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University - Australia's largest University. He went on to study a Bachelor of Physiotherapy before undertaking a Master of Business (Commercialising Science and Technology). During this time, Steven was a very active collegian; he was a student representative for his course, he was on the Executive Team of the Student Council and was heavily involved in campus clubs; particularly the University's Rural and Indigenous Health Club (WILDFIRE), which paved the way for his appointment to the National Rural Health Students Network (NRHSN) Council and the Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) Board. The pinnacle of his involvement was a series of face-to-face meetings with Senators and Federal Members of Parliament at Parliament House, Canberra, to negotiate policy changes and resource allocation for student rural clinical placements to entice training health professionals to seek employment in rural and remote Australia, where health standards are comparatively poor and health professionals are scarce. Steven's colourful and varied journey took an unexpected turn after a 6-week backpacking trip through China in 2008 - returning from his first overseas trip with a different perspective on the world and his future. He commenced a Master of Business (Commercialising Science and Technology) and went on to become the Operations Team Leader of the inaugural 2009 Victorian Business Icon Competition for young entrepreneurs. In 2010, he was head-hunted by the Brightest Young Minds (BYM) Foundation as their General Manager and successfully orchestrated the 2010 BYM Summit, hosted by University of Sydney and Google (Australia) Headquarters. In 2011, Steven is Founder and Managing Director of his first start-up business in brokering student accommodation, whilst being a Co-Director of Australia's Brightest Young Minds (BYM).
