Congratulations to Murray Waas whose special report on insurers canceling patients with breast cancer has won the Barlett & Steele Award for business investigative reporting. His stories revealed that a giant health insurer, WellPoint, had singled out policyholders with breast cancer to cancel their policies. Dozens of interviews with experts, officials and patients led to the Murray Waas story. We published the Murray Waas story in April and the reaction was swift. The Obama administration and Congressional Democrats urged insurers to end the policy.
