Steven Scott
Statistical Analysis in Mountain View, California
During his time with Google as Senior Analyst and as Director of Statistics Research, Steven Scott used his expertise to further the web engine’s statistics research. He is a leader who helped found Google R, an intergroup team that integrated R into the Google build system and provided libraries for internal users to use Google tools (e.g. BigTable, MapReduce) from within R. Some of his contributions involve multi-armed bandits, Bayesian structural time series, spike and slab regression, Consensus Monte Carlo, and General Bayesian computation.
As a Bayesian statistician, Steven Scott is interested in data augmentation methods and Markov chain Monte Carlo. He has also applied these methods to problems in educational testing, network security, biometrics, web browsing, e-commerce, and medical applications.
