What can one say about oneself? Beyond the glossy veneer of a seasoned profile what really lies beneath? Above all I strive, seek even yern to discover truth; that steadfast universal, unchanging truth of reality, not some metaphysical relativistic viewpoint or narrow minded tainted personal opinion. What I want could be described as the total sum of all reality. A man who cannot embrace the depths of his soul is shallow indeed. To be spiritual is to enjoy life, to take each day as it comes and to live life to the fullest. Don’t think that I am advocating a reckless bungee-jumping lifestyle. No, to live life to its fullest is to be grateful for the small graces of living, to be thankful for what one has rather than to lament what we lack. Living life is not to gorge ourselves on a $100 bottle of fine wine but to appreciate and enjoy a $12 bottle. I enjoy watching the sun rise, and love to gaze at the stars on a cloudless night. I love the taste of strong fresh brewed, dark roasted coffee. I like to savor the taste of my food and cook it with fresh ingredients. To be spiritual is to recognize ones humanity; to practice qualities like forgiveness, mercy, and doing the right thing, simply because it the right thing to do instead of with a “what’s in it for me” attitude. I want to pursue the things of love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness; to go the extra mile, without being asked, to extend a helping hand, to turn the other cheek, to give instead to take.
