Steven A. Sugarman is a financier and a licensed lawyer based in California. As a financier, he is best known as a founder of COR Capital LLC investment firm. He is also a founding member of GPS Partners LLC and Sugarfi, a newly formed lending company.

Steven Sugarman was born in Pasadena to a rheumatologist and a school teacher. He grew up in Fullerton where he completed high school. He obtained an undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics at Dartmouth College. Afterwards, he went to Yale Law. He never intended to be a lawyer but was thoroughly interested in the business world. At Yale, he familiarized himself with the laws of investment banking and consulting. He decided that he wanted to follow a career path in problem solving.

After he graduated from Yale Law in 2000, Mr. Sugarman took on his first professional job as a management consultant at the famed McKinsey & Co business consulting firm. He started right before the dot-com bubble burst. Most of his work soon shifted to helping companies cut costs and survive, rather than grow and thrive. He preferred the latter, but the former was necessary for the times.

Mr. Sugarman was at McKinsey &Co just long enough to realize that consulting was really not for him. Consulting as was much about politicking as it was about presenting solutions. He grew tired of convincing established managers what to do, and sought his fortunes elsewhere. In 2002, Mr. Sugarman left his management consulting job to start his own company, Sugarman Enterprises. The company performed advisory services for small businesses. He wrote contracts for small companies and helped them find investors. He also began to broker real estate deals on behalf of these companies. It inspired him to later become a professional licensed real estate broker in the state.

Mr. Sugarman currently operates out of Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife and three children. Mr. Sugarman is part of many community outreach programs in the city to improve financial security.

He has also been involved in various financial literacy programs run by local faith-based groups, nonprofits, and university organizations.
