Steven Warburton

Professor of Technology Enhanced Learning at the University of Surrey and Head of Department. Previously a Senior Lecturer at the University of London. I am also a Fellow of the Centre for Distance Education within the International Academy where I chair the research strategy group. I am also a Visiting Research Fellow at King's Learning Institute, King's College London. I have worked on a range of projects have included: Rhizome - digital identity project; a study of social software in distance education settings; developing a virtual library space (Bibliospace) using social referencing software; and as part of the EMERGE project team supporting a UK wide community of practice in user innovation and development in the area of Web 2.0 and emerging technologies. In terms of European funded projects I have worked in the area of virtual worlds and now on projects supporting older people in their use of technology to improve social inclusion. Other projects I am working on include OERs in academic development, and ePublishing and eBooks models. My research interests are focused on questions of identity in online learning, mobile learning, gamification, learning analytics and open learning design.
