Steve Soboroff

Businessman and civic leader Steve Soboroff has served the Los Angeles community for his entire adult life, as Senior Advisor to Mayor Richard Riordan and as President of Playa Vista,when he led the creation of the reknowned community in West Los Angeles. In addition, Steve Soboroff is widely known as then "man who made it happen" for both the Alameda Corridor and the STAPLES Center. Mr. Soboroff has made his living attempting to improve the landscape and economy of the City of Los Angeles. His effective leadership practices have brought people together and contributed to the creation of jobs through public works projects as well as improving the overall quality of the city. Mr. Soboroff currently acts as a Senior Fellow and member of the Advisory Board at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, the chair of the LMU Center for the Study of Los Angeles, and an advisor to the Dean of the USC School of Public Policy.

He is currently the Chairman of the Weingart Foundation, which in 2010 donated over $30,000,000 to the underserved of Los-Angeles, and was recently appointed by the Trustees of the California Science Center as Senior Advisor on the Space Shuttle Endeavour to LA project. He is Chairman of the Maccabiah Games Committee of 18 in Israel, and has lectured at Stanford, UCLA, USC, UCBerkeley, LMU, and others

Steve Soboroff received his education at The University of Arizona, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s while studying business. Specializing in finance, insurance, and real estate, Mr. Soboroff made his living managing, leasing, and expanding retail spaces around Southland before entering into civic duty. Working under Mayor Richard Riordan, Steve Soboroff became the President of the LA Recreation and Parks’ commission in 1995 and led the upgrade 400 city parks, golf courses, museums, and the iconic Venice Beach boardwalk.
