Steve Wynn
real estate businessman in Downtown, Nevada
A major presence in the hotel and resort sector for the better part of four decades, Stephen Wynn has overseen the development of some of the most widely acclaimed hotels in the world. In particular, he played an integral role in the transformation of Las Vegas from a small gambling destination into a world-renowned resort and convention landmark. After serving as a slot manager and part owner of the Frontier Hotel and owner of his own wine and liquor importing business, he completed a major investment in the Golden Nugget hotel. During his time at the helm of the Golden Nugget, Steve Wynn revitalized the downtown gambling joint and reintroduced it as a Four-Diamond resort that catered to a more upscale clientele.
After opening the Golden Nugget Atlantic City and selling it for a profit of over $300 million, Stephen A. Wynn used the funds from the sale to begin construction on The Mirage, his first hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. The South Seas-themed hotel, which officially opened its doors in 1989, set off a multi-billion dollar building boom on the Strip and established Las Vegas as the top vacation destination in the United States. Over the next decade, Steve Wynn opened hotels such as Treasure Island, which featured a full pirate ship battle performance and represented the first large-scale luxury theme resort. His company also completed construction on the Bellagio, which set the standard for luxury hotels in Las Vegas and beyond.
In recent years, Steve Wynn has developed a number of resorts in the Macau, China, which currently stands as the most lucrative gaming market in the world.
