Van was born and raised in Chicago, and at an early age was heavily involved in a successful family business that did work in a wide variety of different residential and commercial construction projects throughout the Greater Chicago Area.

In short words, In 1991 he came Toronto and attended University of Toronto. After completing his studies in 1995 he went to chicago and finally Van's whole family came to Toronto in 2000. They established Grey Wood homes company and Van was as president at Grey Wood Homes.
