Stuart Lehrman

Hi Folks,

I am a Fine Artist and Adjunct Professor and Philadelphia University. Below is a brief description of my working process. If you are interested in see more of my work or contacting me. Please click Stuart Lehrman Web site link below. Thank you for your time and interest.

My process involves working to a place where I am losing control of the painting. I strain to hear an interior alphabet that leaks out; a language that I have to relearn and translate every time I start on a new work. Then with focused desperation struggling back from that moment to achieve an emotional balance that is spontaneous and natural. The gestures, marks & color - free of the dependence on figure or object, like music tell no stories, illustrate nothing, and launch no myths. I work to evoke the incommunicable, where dream becomes spirit, where line becomes thought, where color becomes existence.

My Road Rage photography series tackles these same problems, and attempts to capture this same dynamic, through the lens of the camera. While walking the streets of Philadelphia, I am always on the lookout for ambiguous accidents of beauty and power, ground into the common pavement. Photographs are shot with a digital camera and printed with archival inks & dye on paper and aluminum.
