Hi, I’m Stuart. I specialise in translating academic writing on modern Italian history from Italian to English. Recent book translations: The Nation of the Risorgimento: Kinship, Sanctity, and Honour in the Origins of Unified Italy, by Alberto Mario Banti (Routledge, 2020); Racism and Antisemitism in Fascist Italy: The Politics, Ideology, and Imagery of ‘La Difesa della razza’, by Francesco Cassata (Routledge, 2024); Catholics and Political Violence in the Twentieth Century: A Global History, by Lucia Ceci (Routledge, 2024). I have also translated numerous articles for Modern Italy and other academic journals. I have BA degrees in Social and Political Sciences (Cambridge) and Language Studies: Italian (Leeds Metropolitan), an MA in Contemporary Italian Culture and History (University College London), and a PhD in Italian History and Cultural Studies (University College London, 2009). I was a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Italian at UCL (2009-2011), a Lecturer in Italian Studies at the University of Manchester (2011-2013), and more recently taught occasional sessions at the University of Sheffield (MA in Translation Studies). I am a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
