Sue joined Gray's School of Art in 2007. Prior to that, she worked in the areas of International Health, (Childbirth related death/survival rates for Mothers) Design for Extreme Environments (Habitats for OuterSpace) and Design for Development, (Sustainable solutions to every day issues in developing countries). She also spent over 10 years working with Industries ranging from Transport and Construction to Forestry and Healthcare.
Raised and educated in Western Canada Sue's broad research interests and activities are informed by her education and eclectic work history. Her way of working bridges design and applied human sciences and she seeks to exchange knowledge through teaching and professional practice. She co-founded a Canadian charity (Design for Development 2006-2012) and has a design company (Fibre Design 2002-present). Recent R&D projects include habitat design/space architecture, design education, design reciprocity, and future technical textiles for health and wellness.
Despite being told by her 3rd grade English teacher that her writing was a fright, she is the author of various journal articles and book chapters.
