It was a rainy June day when I decided I wanted to try my hand at making cookies. I didn't know the first thing about baking, so I soon found myself staring into the aisles of the local Safeway, trying to find a mix that sounded best.
A few hours and two dozen burnt chocolate chip cookies later, I couldn't help but wonder why this was so difficult for me. I started researching cookies and learning about how the ingredients work together, how to make cookies soft in a dry climate (hometown = Calgary, AB!), and how to maximize softness with a slight crunch. Soon I expanded to cakes, puddings, pies and anything sweet I could create in a home kitchen. I found myself making more cookies than I could give away and looking for any excuse to make cakes and cupcakes.
Eventually, I started crafting my own recipes and bringing my baking to work, birthdays, even casual hang outs. More and more people started asking for my recipes and I started to feel like maybe I was onto something.
I've been an avid baker for more than 5 years now and while I have learned a lot, I have a lot more learning to do. Follow me as I share my successes and my failures, all filled with butter, eggs and of course sugar.
