Sujay Ishwarlall
Professionals in the field of health care have several different paths they can choose from in order to start their careers. Traditionally, though, it often begins with a strong focus on education. Training is extremely important to obtain proficiency in any kind of health care profession, particularly in the area of Anaesthesiology. That is why Sujay Ishwarlall pursued a strong educational foundation before beginning his career.
Sujay Ishwarlall graduated from Marklands Secondary School in Durban, South Africa in 1994. He received an exemption with 5 distinctions and passed subjects like English, Biology, and Mathematics. Following his final year at this school, he went on to the University of Kwa-zulu Natal and the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, also in Durba, South Africa. Sujay Ishwarlall attended these schools from 1995 until 2000 and obtained his MBChB, or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Sujay Ishwarlall went on to hold an internship at the Frere Hospital in East London, South Africa. He worked there for a full year, taking several rotations in areas like Paediatrics, Surgery, and Internal Medicine. Sujay Ishwarlall then worked as the Community Service Medical Officer at Christ the King Hospital in Ixopo, South Africa. There, he helped to provide community-based district health care and worked in areas like Accident and Emergency and the General Medical and Surgical Wards.
Sujay Ishwarlall then obtained a position as a Resident Medical Officer at Nuffield Hospitals in Chester and Shrewsbury in the UK. He worked through the RMO International Agency and provided services like post-operative patient care. Sujay Ishwarlall worked in Orthopaedics and General Surgery, and also helped with routine and emergency management.
Following holding this post in the UK, Sujay Ishwarlall went back to South Africa to work at the King Edward VIII Hospital in the Department of Anaesthesiology. He then went to the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and obtained his Diploma in Anaesthesia. Now, he holds the position of the Departmental Head of Anaesthesiology at Moose Jaw Union Hospital in Saskatchewan, Canada. Sujay Ishwarlall continues to work hard in building on his medical experience, and presently focuses on Geriatric Anaesthesia, with growing interest in Paediatric and Regional Anaesthesia.
