Sumaiya Sultana
Research Fellow in Genova, Italy
I’m Sumaiya Sultana, a Research Fellow at DIBRIS, University of Genoa, based in Genova, Italy. My current work focuses on a project dedicated to supporting research and care related to Rett syndrome through innovative, human-centered technologies.
With a background in Computer Science and Engineering and a master’s specialization in Engineering Technology for Strategy and Security, my interests lie at the intersection of Virtual Reality, Extended Reality, Human–Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and healthcare technology.
During my internship at SIMAV, I worked on a comparative analysis of simulation engines for healthcare applications, exploring how different technologies can support medical training and decision-making in healthcare environments. I also had the opportunity to participate in the Sustainable Talent Program at ABB.
I am particularly interested in designing immersive and interactive systems that can support communication, rehabilitation, learning, and quality of life in healthcare and assistive contexts. My academic and professional journey has also included work in AI-driven disease diagnosis, Health Technology Assessment, digital simulations, and data-driven decision-making. My goal is to bridge emerging technologies with practical, inclusive solutions that address real-world challenges.
