Sumayah Jamal
Dr. Sumayah Jamal founded Keris Dermatology after more than 20 years of medical training and research. From her office in New York's historic Flatiron district, Dr. Jamal performs a variety of treatments addressing a broad spectrum of cosmetic concerns and skin abnormalities. With a focus on patients of color and their sometimes unique conditions, Dr. Jamal draws from her experience as the Director of the Langone Medical Center Ethnic Skin Clinic at New York University (NYU) to provide cutting-edge treatments to this population.
Dr. Sumayah Jamal holds member affiliations with the American Academy of Dermatology, the Skin of Color Society, and the Melanoma Research Society, among other medical associations. She has published peer-reviewed research on subjects as diverse as HIV, melanoma, cellulitis, and acne.
Dr. Jamal earned graduate degrees as both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Microbiology at NYU in 1991. She performed her medical internship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Her subsequent residency training in dermatology at NYU’s School of Medicine was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in microbiology from 1998 to 2002.
Currently, Dr. Jamal holds dual teaching positions at NYU's School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and a Research Assistant Professor of Microbiology.
In her practice at Keris Dermatology, Dr. Jamal performs treatments such as skin tightening, Botox, sclerotherapy for varicose veins, and various procedures to improve skin discoloration. Dr. Sumayah Jamal endeavors to provide remission from chronic skin disease, relief from discomfort, and improved cosmetic results and self-esteem for each of her patients. Dr. Jamal is fluent in both French and English.
