Summer is currently getting her Master’s Degree from DePaul University in Digital Communications and Media Arts. While she isn’t in school, she works as a communications manager at Be Strong Families, where she does everything from designing flyers to building e-newsletters.

Though it may seem like she wouldn’t have time to do much else, Summer always makes an effort to volunteer and travel. Summer has done everything from serving with City Year Chicago to rebuilding homes in Biloxi, Mississippi with Habitat For Humanity. In addition to this, she has traveled throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. One of her most memorable experiences was traveling to Ma’an, Jordan and seeing Petra, a city carved into the mountains of Jordan's southwestern desert.

Summer also loves writing and reading! Summer’s writing career launched directly after high school when the Chicago Tribunepublished her article, “My Secret Past.” Since then, Summer has written for outlets such as Animal Planet, the Center For Media and Democracy, and several nonprofit organizations. One of her goals is to be above the fold for a major news organization.

Summer is an alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she double majored in journalism and political science. She also spent eight months studying journalism and political science at the American University in Cairo.

While attending UW-Madison, Summer joined Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc, a multicultural sorority dedicated to community service. She was also a recipient of the Posse Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship awarded to students who demonstrate leadership in their schools and communities.
