Everyone knows the saying, “A jack of all trades is a master of none”, but most people conveniently forget the second half, “but often times better than a master of one”. This quote represent how I've chosen to live my life. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by just about learning everything. One of my most vivid, earliest, and amusing memories was a “show-and-tell” that I had in the first grade, a few years after my family moved to America. Not knowing what I should present, I decided to ask my parents, who instead of suggesting toys or games, told me to present the digestive system of the human body. Looking back on it, I certainly couldn’t place any blame on my immigrant parents, who could have only assumed that show-and-tell in school should be academically related. I remember practicing with my dad every day the week before, making sure I knew how to pronounce words such as “esophagus” or knowing how to differentiate between the two intestines. To this day, I have a graphic memory of taking a printed sheet of the digestive system and explaining the whole cycle in front of my whole class. After the presentation, some of my classmates even asked me questions and to on the subject, which only fueled my passion further. Although it may not have been what “show-and-tell” was supposed to be, it was certainly a defining moment, as it was the first thing which made me interested in learning more about the world.
Ever since then I’ve taken on a numerous amount of hobbies, from painting, playing the guitar, photoshopping images for graphic design, dancing on stage, learning how to code, and making music. I don’t claim to a be a master at any of them, and I'd say I'm an intermediate at most, but the thrill of learning something new is a feeling I value much more. I believe that learning different things can allow me to live my fullest life, because what else could teach me the complete human experience other than experience itself?
