Sung grew up in Northern California in the city of Albany. Having grown up in the church under the shadow of a father who was pastoring a local Korean-Immigrant church, Sung naturally developed a desire to pursue a similar path as his father. To his surprise, his father passed away after a long battle with luekemia when he was eight years old. Wounded by the absence of a father, Sung set out to determine his own course and aspired to be in the medical field upon his arrival in Biola University as a freshman at age 18. As an undergraduate studying in a Bible Institute, however, it did not take long for him to rediscover his true passion for ministry and the Word of God.
