Sunil Subramanya, born in Sringeri, a revered centre of spiritual and cultural heritage, hails from a family with a rich musical background. Immersed in music from an early age, he developed a deep affinity for rhythm and Carnatic traditions.

He has undergone systematic training in Carnatic Mridangam under the guidance ofVidvan Bangalore Arjun Kumar, imbibing the rich traditions of both the Tanjore andPudukkottai banis. His playing reflects a refined blend of structural finesse and rhythmic vitality, marked by clarity of strokes, tonal depth, and aesthetic balance.

An ‘A Top’ graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Sunil Subramanya hasaccompanied several eminent vocalists, instrumentalists in various Sabhas, templefestivals, and cultural programmes all over India. His strong command over the Carnatic tala system enables him to contribute effectively to kritis, ragam-tanam-pallavi, and tani avarthanam, enhancing both manodharma and compositional music.

His contributions to Carnatic percussion have been recognised with several honours, including the Naada Jyoti Puraskara, Ananya Yuva Puraskara, and the CMANA Endowment from the Percussive Arts Centre.

In addition to performance, he is actively involved in teaching Mridangam, guiding students with emphasis on traditional values, rhythmic precision, and concert disciplin.

With a conventional training background in the Vedas, He has completed his Masters Degree in English.
