Lissie Riley
Hi fellow clean eating foodies!
Thought I should give you a bit of background on my blog.
I grew up in a tiny, rural county called Rutland where my parents grew most of our fruit & veg & bought only local, organic & seasonal foods. We had loads of nourishment, country walks and days picking veggies together!
But as I hit my teens, all of this went out of the window! I started to become much more aware of my weight. I drank a lot of diet drinks & lived on low fat foods without thinking about the sugar or artificial sweeteners that had been added.
Between my teens & my early twenties, I developed quite a difficult relationship with food, yo-yoing between being underweight and overweight and always on a diet.
This starve/binge mentality resulted in an unsettled metabolism & nutrition had become an afterthought. I gradually started to re-think the way I viewed both food & my body & began to concentrate primarily on being healthy, ditched the scales & started to research nutrition.
I cut out various foods to test the effects on my body. Some, I reintroduced, but removing others had a positive effect on my energy levels & general wellbeing - sugar seemed to make me feel tired & lethargic & exacerbated cravings for more sugary foods whereas healthy fats and raw, whole foods had the opposite effect.
I began to experiment with creating new meals, snacks & treats & started to really look forward to finding new recipes & trying new foods.
After a couple of months, my energy levels started to really lift, which also motivated me to exercise more. I have always loved getting outdoors into the fresh air or the sea when I can but I do go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week as well, as it is so hard to second guess the British weather!
It sounds cheesy but it started to feel like I was healing my body from the inside out &, as an extra benefit, I achieved a healthy, stable weight that hasn’t fluctuated for years. Plus I’m still as excited about my food!
I spend so long telling the people I know about new foods or new recipes that I thought it was about time I gave them a break & started a blog! Hopefully some of my posts will inspire you too!
