As I watched the seagulls, I thought: That's the road to take; find the absolute rhythm and follow it with absolute trust.

Nikos Kazantzakis

I was never quite comfortable being young. At fifty, I started feeling like myself and at sixty, I looked in the mirror and thought, "OK, THERE she is!"

An only child who never dreamed of having brothers and sisters, I loved having friends over and I loved it when they went back home. I'm that way still - what some people call a "social introvert."

I was educated in science and education, did my doctoral research in Russia, never used my degree, homeschooled two sons into college so my family could travel together, and now I paint. A lot, because I love art and want to contribute to that world.

I've been married to the same man for 33 years. But, really, it's more like we've been married three or four times to different people who happen to have the same names as we do. We have two gay sons who we adore. We also adore their partners and call the four of them our Boy Scout Patrol. None of them wants children and that works for me - I have other things on my mind.

I believe there is a truth we sometimes glimpse in parts and pieces. Everything I write, each picture I paint and word I speak, is my effort to sync up with that Absolute Rhythm.
