I was four. I screamed for my Mama to come in and see immediately. Margo Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev were dancing,
I traced the bodies of the two dancers on the screen.
That’s what I’m doing, I told her. I never looked back.
I have danced in world renowned ballet companies, in opera houses, performed for presidents and dignitaries and in third world countries to children in
houses without windows and a dirt floor to dance on.
I worked in Paris, and have visited many times. A place I feel at home and where my profession is a natural job.
I have worked with famous dancers, choreographers and directors, many who are not alive anymore.
It is their gift of movement that is forever in my body. Agnes de Mille was my mentor and would hold my hand, often in a wheelchair
in the wings before entering the stage. A beautiful strong woman.
It is my privilege and purpose to give this to others so that the legacy continues.
Traveling all over the world I learned that dance is universal. You do not have to speak the same language to understand its beauty.
I felt compelled to create a ballet about the journey of a ballerina not only in travel but in the mind.
I journeyed to Paris, Madrid and Morocco, filming and dancing literally in the streets of Paris, the arts square in Madrid and the rooftops of Morocco.
I then staged, choreographed, costumed and performed it as a multi-media ballet , film and live dance performed onstage named TUTU in 2013.
I continue to dance, choreograph and perform and hope to start a small professional company.
I have taught those who have gone on to wonderful companies and who I still keep in contact with.
I have learned more in visiting other countries and cultures than any history book could have taught me. I urge my students to explore. To open up
their world. The art of movement has so many avenues, so many ways of interpretation. You just have to go out there and find it.
