Canyon Country

My name is Suzy Roach and I was born 1986 in Simi Valley, CA. When I was two, my parents moved to the desert East of Palmdale to a small town called Lake Los Angeles. I basically grew up there. There wasn't much to do and it was far from opportunity but it had led me down a specific path in my artistic developments. I am a self taught artist and have not taken classes, therefore I like to think of my talent as "raw", haha. I create art in a variety of mediums from acrylic, pastel, charcoal, sculpture, to my personal favorite, pyrography. Pyrography, also known as "wood burning" is a technique that is "to burn" images or words typically into wood, but is not limited to. As an artist, I have always felt the need to merge and twist my perception until I could see the beautiful things in life, even, if not especially, in the dark. To me, that is where I feel closer to the truth. I have been told my art is "sad", "depressing", or even "scary". It depends on your perception, I suppose. Although, the majority of my work can be "dark" not all of it is so. I have done landscapes, portraits, and many other pieces that I would not categorize as such. I'll just leave the opinions up to you ;). Thank you for taking the time to read and feel free to contact me!
