Rory Mc Bride
Bath
Hi there I'm Rory.I swept my first chimney working with my Dad 30 years ago and continued helping him during school holidays until I left school at 18 and set out on my own.
After five years in the building and sweeping trade I retrained as a tree surgeon/forester which was an exciting career however after yet another bad winter Brrr! I returned to the family trade and since then I have constantly updated my skills including inspections, cctv operation, solid fuel awareness and woodburner fitting.
I do not fit woodburners or flue liners or cowls or repair chimneys you can depend on the fact that any advice given is for your benefit and not mine.
I am a time served traditional chimney sweep however I believe my experience in the building trade and forestry has added an extra dimension to the service I can offer my customers.
Why do I wear a top hat? : this honour was bestowed on chimney Sweeps by King George the second - a chimney sweep saved his life after which the king declared all chimney sweeps to be true gentlemen - a tradition I uphold with pride.
During the less busy times of the year I attend relevent training courses where I have the opportunity to swap ideas and tricks of the trade with my fellow sweeps.
I enjoy tinkering with all things mechanical, brewing bio diesel and baking bread, pizza and sunday dinner in my self built Wiltshire bread oven and am fascinated with all things historic.
I live in an 18th century labourers cottage in Bath with my wife Liza, my son, two stoves, 3 open fires and the brick bread oven and yes it is an obsession!
