Mohd Syamirulah Rahim
Writer and Doctor in Malaysia
I'm a 28 years old medical doctor currently practising in Malaysia, with special interest in Research, Transplant Medicine, Critical Care Medicine , Nephrology, Microbiology and Immunology.
Making diagnosis and formulating treatment plans are my daily doses of adrenaline, while at the same time I am constantly being amazed by the magnificent of how human body works, and the way it adapts in response to challenge! I basked in happiness upon seeing the smile of a patient, when their ailments are alleviated, when their suffering is ceased and their sorrow is replaced with joy.
I indulge in numbers and graphs and statistic, while detecting the trend and pattern on a micro or macro scale. My obsession lies in maintaining homeostasis, by identifying and crossing out its variables and correcting its causes. And I cant help but to be impressed with the ways and mechanism of our magnificent human body work in restoring balance and keeping its order.
Writing is my oxygen. In a sense that I'll suffocate if I cant write on a daily basis. Give me a cup of tea, a pen and a notebook, and I'll spend my day writing - whether it'll be by a snowy window of a small apartment in Nizhniy Novgorod, or a bamboo booth next to a paddy field in Kg. Nawa. I express myself best in words and ink, as my thoughts racing in my mind faster than I type.
A part of me says that I was born not without a greater purpose to the humanity. The altruistic attitude is manifested in me as I struggle to find greatness and achievements that would change the course of human history. But of course, I'm no superman. I believe greatness comes from within, and it reflects to the people around me. As the saying by the Great Prophet Muhammad goes,
"Khairunnas anfa'uhum linnas."
The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind.
