Sydney Bryant
Student in Anna, Texas
I am from Colorado Springs, Colorado. I lived there until I was 12. My dad got really sick with pneumonia and my little sister who was 1 at the time was hospitalized because she got the flu. After that my parents decided it was time to move to somewhere with a warmer climate. We looked around at places anywhere from California to Mississippi. My parents went to Texas in the winter and found a house in a little town called Farmersville. It was terrible. Growing up in the city all my life, living out in the country was really different.
My family moved to Anna last year. My first day was the worst I have ever had. Everyone in all of my classes looked at me like I was some sort of alien. I begged my parents to home school me, but they insisted that I give it another chance. Later that week I made a few friends and people started to accept me for who I was. I found comfort in writing, reading, art, and track. Everyone there took me in and made me feel at home.
On June 20, 2016 I joined the United States Marine Corps. I was so excited about everything that was to come. The Marines gave me a list of jobs that I qualified for and I ended up choosing MP, or the military police. I decided that I was going to stay in the MP position for a couple of years and then change my career path and try EOD, or explosive ordinance disposal. I plan on going to college while still enlisted in the military after my first 8 year contract is over. I plan on going to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Engineering school and studying Aeronautical Engineering. I leave for Marine Corps bootcamp on June 19, 2017.
