Shaq On The Radio

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Morning shows are the cornerstone and foundation of a radio station. Providing the listener with ‘a pick me up’ every morning. It requires creativity, innovation, and commitment.

Shaq has been hosting the Yes FM Morning show since 1999; however, his radio life started in 1995.

It is now 18+ years in making – Shaq’s journey has been full of challenges, obstacles and triumphs and as the well know proverb states, “where there is a will, there is a way” became the motto of Shaq.

Born in 1976 in Sri Lanka, Riyaz Deen Shah Jahan or Shaq as he is commonly known in Sri Lanka; loved for his indomitable style and personality. Shaq has been able to create ripples by simply being himself. Fuelled by the passion to innovate & the commitment to excellence in everything he does or says, his impact on his stakeholders are much greater than most would imagine.

Shaq is considered a pioneer in evolving radio broadcasting in Sri Lanka. He changed the landscape of broadcasting to an interactive format and since then has been adopted by almost all radio stations in the Island.

His team spirit, and leadership style has taken Yes FM to new paradigms and thus is considered a pioneer in modern Sri Lankan English radio industry.

This renowned voice has been on radio for over a decade now; however it is the Yes FM’s Morning Show which seems to be the place where Shaq has really made a mark. In fact, on March 16, 2014, Shaq would celebrate 15 years on the Morning Show!

Over the years, many co-hosts have come and gone, the world has evolved, technology has advanced, but one thing remains the same ‘Shaq’! He has this uncanny ability to change with time and adapt to any situation – making him and his show number one for over a decade!

An achievement hard to vie by many! His show is the most expensive show in any medium in Sri Lankan radio history to date!!

Shaq used to hate cameras and never thought he would be able to look the camera in the eye and talk! One thing he admits he had to learn with TV more than anything else is, “TV cannot work at your pace”; you need to work at TV’s pace!!Being selected to host ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ has been an amazing opportunity! Just to be a part of a group of people around the world (the likes of Amitab Bachchan or Sharuk Khan ) and to host the “WORLD’S MOST POPULAR GAME SHOW” ; the only franchised show, in Sri Lanka; this, further validates’ his versati
