Sylke Freeke

Sylke Freeke is a graduate solo devised performance practitioner completing her Master's at the University Of Chichester on the MA Performance (Theatre) course. She is currently based in Chichester, UK after studying in the UK and the USA and she has become interested in making cross-cultural performances; drawing on her own experiences as an émigré to the UK from South Africa she makes work interrogating the evolution of cultural identity from the perspective of a first-generation migrant and self-proclaimed nomad. Through her work she attempts to explore distance, alienation, culture clashes, loss and loneliness in a contemporary world that is growing ever more mobile and more culturally diverse.
She works in a range of different forms from durational live art to theatre performance to film, and has appeared in music videos, short films and TV as well as being involved with live performances in London and New York.
