Sylvia Masuda
Copy Editor, Graphic Designer, and Artist in Chicago, Illinois
I'm a Los Angeles native who found her heart and soul in the Midwest. I've got a decade of experience in journalism as a reporter, copy editor, page editor and page designer, all while finding time to foster my hobbies in the arts, specifically improvisational performance, DIY zine production and visual mixed media, burlesque, performance art, music composition and immersive theater acting. I am passionate about exploring the United States and the world first-hand from gastronomical and historical perspectives. As someone affected by mental illness, I am drawn to sharing my stories with others to raise awareness of and tear down barriers concerning the various facets of living with a mental health disorder.
I am a page production specialist (read: copy editor and page designer) for Tribune Publishing. I work on news and features sections for the Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel and Hartford Courant.
In my free time, I binge-listen to loads of podcasts; down a lot of kombucha and cold brew; dream up the next tattoos I'm going to get; covet my neighbors' taxidermy collections; and play video games and have dance parties with my partner.
Hail and well met!
