Ré Phillips
Artist and Activist in Atlanta, Georgia
I am an artist and activist that grew up amidst the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and remain heavily influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King’s ideas of non-violence. Since the age of 18, I have traveled the world to internationalize messages of peace, hope, and non-violent resistance through her paintings and performances.
My work has been exhibited in China, the USA, England, Turkey, India, and Spain, and have served as a cultural envoy performing sacred black music with the National Theatre Company of China, the National Theatre of Uganda, and the Palestinian National Theatre. I have also performed extensively in South Africa, the Sudan, the U.S. and India.
In 2010, I graduated with honors from Stanford University and in 2013 I earned an M.Phil. in International Development from the University of Oxford, St. Antony’s College. I was previously an American India Foundation Fellow based in India and a Fulbright Fellow based in China. I now work on issues of financial literacy and financial inclusion in Atlanta, GA, USA.
I am the founder of AYA Global innovators, a startup that uses creative capital to spark leadership, community development, and activism among young women in East Africa.
