Thomas Dowson

My fascination with the past began as a child on adventure fieldtrips, climbing through caves in Zimbabwe and finding fragments of Iron Age pottery. I went on to study archaeology at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa), specialising in prehistoric art and the contemporary relevance of archaeology.

After teaching and researching at leading universities in South Arica and England, I left the traditional academic setting and now continue exploring my passion for understanding the past as an independent scholar, and sharing this passion on Archaeology Travel. I also provide private, bespoke guided tours that focus on artistic traditions of the past: Exploring Art in Archaeology Through the Ages.
