Vancouver BC Canada
From his early success introducing Vancouver’s gay nightlife to then-burgeoning electroclash and nu-disco movements, to headlining club nights in Seattle, San Francisco, Victoria, and Toronto, TAFFI LOUIS has steadily built a unique reputation, defying simple categorization and reaching further.
His edits and reworks have won support from the likes of techno/electro icon The HACKER, Nang & Homebreakin recording artists GEMINI BROTHERS, ITALO BRUTALO, Brooklyn modern disco ensemble MIDNIGHT MAGIC, & more.
For 2015, he'll perform at the 6th annual Tall Tree Music Festival. His mixes are featured on FutureClassics.ca and Freq Note Radio(Seattle)
, alongside podcasts for Honey Soundsystem(SF), and BottomForty.com(Seattle), and he's shared billing with a growing number of favourite contemporary influences: FM ATTACK, FUTUREWIFE, LA ROYALE & YESCO, locals like ABASI, RENNIE FOSTER, and WOODHEAD, to name a few.
Art Of Beatz Radio (100.5FM) calls TAFFI LOUIS “a mastermind… leading the charge”, twisting notions of past and present musical genres into new possibilities. As likely to draw inspiration from vintage sounds (italo-disco, '80s synthpop) as modern (techno, house, electro), he connects to various audiences through a mixture of unexpected, familiar, and forgotten gems mixed in a more modern context.
TAFFI LOUIS DJ sets are dynamic, responsive portraits of the audience, the setting, and the moment. Sometimes regarded as just a "disco" DJ since starting @TRUCKERDISCO events in 2011, to try and describe the music he plays by just a couple of genres would be misleading. Each set unfolds and tells its own story.
