My formal training/instruction started the summer of 1995 when I joined the Tai Chi Chuan Study Association; located at the Grace & St. Peters Church in the Mount Vernon area of down town Baltimore.
We were Taught Yang Style Taijiquan Long Form coming via the lineage of Xu Yusheng, we also learned Tui shou/Pushing hands & Tai Chi sword. I did not learn The sword form when I was asked to do so because I felt my kung fu/skill wasn't at a high enough level to do so.
I felt that once I reached a level of skill acceptable to me it would be easy to learn the sword form & this would serve me better in the long run. i have resisted learning the sword form still to this day. Yes, my standards I set for myself are higher then that of most people who play Taijiquan.
Prior to that i studied Taijiquan material on my own from Cheng Man-ching, Da Liu, Alfred Huang, Sophia Delza and quite a few others to gain a better understanding of this art.
By the time i joined the Association I had already started to from a good physical and intellectual understanding of Taijiquan; so much so that Abdulmuhsiy Abdurrahman the instructor that i gained my initial Taijiquan frame from thought i had already studied Taijiquan previously.
I became an assistant instructor under John W. Oden approx 3 years later. He was a senior student of Dr. John Wan-Yuin Chang the founder & Master/Sifu of the Tai Chi Chuan Study Association.
I stayed with Mr. Oden in this capacity for 8-10 years at Westminster House ( a senior citizen housing building) before receiving permission to teach.
Prior to this I had already taken on 2 private students who did very well while they were with me. One of them DeAndre Green I later recommended to study with Mr. Oden to further his studies.
I have also assited Mr. Oden in various Taijiquan seminars to include the Balto. Yaht Club, Notre Dame of Maryland University @ it's Charles Street campus, & also Leisure World a private, age-restricted community located in Montgomery County, Maryland.
I have attending various Push Hands get togethers hosted by Sifu David Chen formerly of Wuwei Tai Chi with Mr. Oden to further our knowledge and share our art with others.
I am a available for private lessons as well as group instruction if a suitable space is available. Private lessons are via a private treaty, but are more then reasonable cost wise. You can not by
