After facing a severe health scare in 2009, I felt a deep unhappiness with my life. I chose to keep my health scare private since I am a private person by nature, but also because facing the reality and telling people about it would mean I needed to be accountable for my life in a way that I simply was not emotionally prepared to do.
You owe it to yourself, your family, and friends to be brilliant. Life is a gift. We only live this moment once. Every minute is one we can choose to fill with inspiration and love, or we can flush like a dirty tissue. I was poorly equipped, emotionally weak, and without a strategy.
You know what they say about change— it’s going to happen no matter what. Change happened to me. And it wasn’t pretty. I became an unfocused, massively over weight, emotionally distraught, broke, negative and complaining wrecking ball. My marriage crumbled. I became too broken and shy to ask for help. The people I least expected to help, were angels. Most of the people I was sure would be supportive, disappeared. Brilliant doctors of Western Medicine, and practitioners of Eastern Medicine were fabulous— But each modality is only one piece of the pie.
I’ve taken my physical and emotional health into my own hands using traditional techniques for women’s health that I’ve learned from my Native American ancestry and utterly brilliant hippy midwife who delivered my three kids in my home. (Lisa unexpectedly passed away in 2013). I’ve also built a vast collection of resources— books, oral stories, video, conversations in the kiva, you name it, I have it! Each resource has supplemented the teachings from my mother, grandmother, and aunties for over 40 years!
And that, my dear friends, is how Mother’s Apothecary was born.
You can do this too. I will show you how. It feels radiant to pass on the goodness others have showered on you. My life purpose is to share the knowledge that saved me at rock bottom because physical/ emotional/ spiritual health and wellness is a divine gift that is for everyone. They are all linked! Every mother everywhere is the first practitioner of health in her own home. Reclaim your power and infuse your home with effervescence and vitality!
With love,
