I have been interested in the body and its mechanicssince I began the study of anatomy at ballet school aged 14. Once I became aprofessional dancer I realised how integral massage can be to body health.Initially as a dancer with Queensland Ballet in Australia I recognised massageas an integral aspect of my rehabilitation from injury. Generally when yourinjured the area of pain will restrict movement which in turn can create morepain in different areas, leading to a vicious cycle. It was during this periodI recognised the benefits of massage not just on the injured area of my bodybut on the areas that were 'healthy', thus speeding and improving my recovery.
It wasn't until I moved to Scottish Ballet and my workload became heavier with my promotion to principal dancer that I realised thepreventative effects of massage. The chance to have a massage weekly whiletraining and performing meant that the equilibrium of my muscles andconsequently my skeleton was kept in balance. Also meaning that the majority ofsmall niggles and strains were dealt with at a minor level, rather than beingleft to inflame into a major problem. So combining my love of anatomy with myrespect for body maintenance, the decision to become a massage therapist wassimple.
In 2011 I took a year long course in holistic massagein London, undertaking the continuous assessment and final exam to obtain myItec diploma. After which I have gone on to complete various other shortcourses to extend and fine tune my knowledge and abilities. Coupled withproviding treatments to dancers and the general public during the last years ofmy dance career, I recognised the enormous potential for relaxation massage hasand how needed this was in most peoples lives. Through all this, I have come tolove the opportunity to help people better understand there bodies, as well asrelieve pain and tension to improve their everyday lives. Upon my retirementfrom Ballet I decided massage was something I wanted to devote much more timeto and so founded Glasgow Massage Studio in April 2013.
