Tamara Clarkson

Since 2012, I have had the opportunity empower students through the career development process by identifying their strengths and connecting them with the resources and opportunities within the Purdue community and beyond. Through individual counseling appointments and speed networking events, my students have been able to experience both personal and professional growth. I am a firm believer in evaluating my endeavors and consistently receive high ratings on my individual counseling appointments, with 100% reporting they would refer a friend to me if she/he were struggling with career related issues. The speed networking events also receive high ratings, with an average of 90% reporting they learned something they didn't know before.

While in graduate school, I learned the potential of a client-focused counseling strategy that I still practice today. I also gained rewarding professional experiences as a graduate research assistant, working closely with Texas State faculty and staff to improve accommodations for international students entering an American university setting for the first time.

I have a passion for instilling courage in students and am so thankful I am in a field that allows me this privilege. My ability to listen and collaborate with students and colleagues are skills I consistently use and look forward to developing as my career progresses. My ability to think creatively, while at the same time be detail-oriented, has been helpful as I’ve sought to envision large goals and work backwards to analyze how those goals can become reality. I desire to continually grow and look forward to learning from all my career services colleagues!
