Tamara Abraham

Student in Brooklyn, NY

Hello, My name is Tamara . I’m a proud class of ’23 graduate of Medgar Evers College living in Brooklyn, NY. I am a fan of photography, music, and writing. I’m also interested in psychology, law and history. I attended Medgar Evers College as well as Year Up New York.

I am a 1st generation Caribbean. My mom would always tell me that education is a must in this country. Therefore, I took pride in my journey for higher education; learning that it is not an easy road. That plans, do not always go as expected. Having to accept any set backs and refocusing on my vision to come back stronger.

I joined Year Up, which is a program to help college students learn skills in the business world. I am tackling this amazing opportunity with open arms as I need a new start, a new challenge. Think of Year Up like you are playing a video game. You need to gain knowledge, resources, and information before moving to the next level. As a psych major in the business fundamental track of Year Up. I know that with the right networking and improving my skills. I can unlearn bad habits and relearn new ones. Therefore, I can achieve all what I want in life.

I can take everything I learn from college and Year Up and apply it to my daily and work life.

When I’m looking back at my beginnings as to what lead me to the road I‘m walking now. I can deeply appreciate my stepping stone. That I started from the bottom and grew my way to the top. Overcoming any adversity.

l’m going to leave you with three quotes from songs I live by; “I’m far from Finished,” “Everyday I have to win,” and “In everything you do, give Jah thanks and praise… Wherever, you go bring Jah along the way.”
