Tamarah Horton
Hi! Welcome to Passport. Ready to journey to the nations with us?
Since Passport is "all things family missions", consider me your mission trip leader.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Tamarah Horton and this is a little bit of my story.
When my parents were young and building their family, they followed a job opportunity to Central America. My mother, six months pregnant with me when they journeyed to this new country, delivered me in a little Catholic clinic in Guadalajara, Mexico before she even knew how to speak Spanish.
I spent the first nine years of my life in Latin America. I have so many vivid memories from these early, wonderful years: memories of spending holidays at La Playa Libertad (the beach in El Salvador), memories of buying wooden spools of thread and colorful kites from the busy market place, memories of plucking bananas off of the banana tree in our back yard, memories of helping a neighbor recover her escaped pet monkey, and memories of navigating my first years in a bi-lingual school. And it was during these years that I developed a deep love for the Hispanic people, and an overall comfort level with living outside the USA and among a different culture.
Fast forward………wow…………. through two and a half decades of marriage, college and grad school, four kids and nearly twenty years of years of raising and home educating these kids. That’s where life finds me now.
