I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario and am the eldest of two children in my family. Being the older sibling provided me with my first experience of what it may be like to be a teacher, as my younger sister spent a ton of time following me around the house mimicking everything I did. As I grew up, I developed a passion for being able to help others and impact people in a positive way. I spent a lot of time growing up volunteering in my community and when I was sixteen, I went on a habitat for humanity trip to Trinidad and Tobago. Among volunteering, I loved playing basketball and am the head coach of the varsity girls’ basketball team at my old high school. I also enjoy reading, especially about topics related to biology- more specifically genetics.
I have been lucky enough to gain experience working with children through school placements, work and volunteer experience. My desire to help improve the lives of others has been a main factor that has driven me towards entering the teaching profession. In the past I have worked at Redwood Acres Public School, tutoring children in literacy one on one. I also often assist at a local home day care, preparing toddlers as they get ready to enter kindergarten. I have gained valuable experience with patience when teaching individuals younger than I am new concepts- this is something I take great pleasure in doing. The teaching profession would allow me to share my love of science with my students every day through educating them.
