Tamika Shuler

I am an Instructional Coach, writer, and teacher at heart currently living in Columbia, South Carolina. My interests range from education to writing in available moments. I am also interested in reading, researching various topics and volunteering for organizations that advance education, teacher leadership, social issues, and community partnerships.

My career affords me with opportunities to work with teachers across one of the largest districts in South Carolina that serves more than 50,000 students. In my position, I work with 9 middle schools by managing and providing professional development, curriculum and assessments, and various resources to support teaching and learning for middle schools.

A huge part of my job includes supporting teachers through professional development-district and school-based-to support literacy instruction as well as providing coaching services to first year teachers and english teachers in general. The support includes modeling lessons around specific strategies and/or co-teaching and planning; observing teachers and providing feedback; and providing small group professional learning opportunities.

My past career as a Curriculum Resource Teacher has allowed me to do some of the same work mentioned above but on the school level. As a CRT, I worked on district professional development teams to provide professional learning on district PD days to middle and high school teachers and worked on curriculum teams to write curriculum and assessments for grades six through eight. I've also written blogs and an article for Teaching Tolerance and am currently, looking for opportunities to expand my writing into education journals and blogs based on organizations in which I am affiliated.

In the past, I've served on the Teaching Tolerance Advisory board, The South Carolina Education Association Membership board, The Scholastic Teacher Advisory board, and currently, the South Carolina Literacy Leaders board.
