If there's any single thing I could talk about for hours on end, it would be my love for Mock Trial. Mock Trial is exactly what the title insinuates mock (fake) trials (cases). I was on my high school's mock trial team for all four years of high school. I was just an attorney for my freshman and sophomore year. For my junior and senior year, I was lead attorney. As an attorney on the team I worked with the other members on the team to help build a case for one side of the trial. Building a case means going through written statements, different exhibits, and various other materials looking for anything and everything that we can use to defend our side of the case. In a way, writing an essay can be compared to this process because both have multiple parts and require evidence. With Mock Trial, the goal of our team was to beat the other team by proving that our evidence made the most sense and proved beyond a reasonable doubt the guiltiness or innocence. Similarly in writing, we are expected to find textual support to prove that an argument is being made through a piece of work. I loved mock trial, and it has definitely helped me solidify my career choice. I am a Risk Management and Insurance major, and I plan to go to law school. In the future, I want to be an attorney. At the same time, Mock Trial also showed me some of my weaknesses in writing as I struggled with writing the longer pieces. Despite this being in Mock Trial has allowed me to see that I am very interested in law, and it has pushed me to pursue my dreams.
